The Alhambra and The Generalife
The monumental complex of the Alhambra, of indescribable beauty, was the residence of the Nasrid sultans between the 13th and 15th centuries. It is a palatial city, with its palaces and gardens.
Also a fortress, surrounded by walls. All this within the city of Granada.
The Generalife gardens, its palaces and royal apartments show the splendor that Granada reached during the Nasrid dynasty.
Cathedral
The first stone of the Cathedral of Granada was laid in 1523, but it was not finished until 1704, 181 years later. Its greatness and importance lies not only in its artistic wealth, but also in its historical and religious significance, the same that the Catholic Monarchs wanted to give it when choosing its Royal Chapel as a burial place.
The Royal Chapel
The Royal Chapel was built at the express wish of the Catholic Monarchs who began its construction in 1504, before the Cathedral. They had chosen it as the place of his burial and the queen personally wrote in her will how it should be finished.
His grandson, Emperor Charles V, finished it and also made it the dynastic pantheon of the royal family.
Albaycín and Sacromonte
The Albaycín and Sacromonte neighborhoods are two historic neighborhoods to visit in Granada. The Albaycín is located on a hill in front of the Alhambra and is one of the most typical neighborhoods in Granada. It offers numerous cisterns, Arab houses, very narrow streets from where you can enjoy stunning views of the Alhambra.
The Sacromonte is famous for its caves, its gypsy zambras, its flamenco shows.
The Bañuelo
In the Bañuelo you can see some impressive 11th century Arab baths, one of the most complete and oldest preserved Arab baths in Spain at the foot of the Alhambra.
Darro Race
The Carrera del Darro and the Paseo de los Tristes are one of the most beautiful places in Granada, next to the Darro river, crossing two stone bridges.
